Women's Rowing Wins Three Races

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's rowing team won three of five races with Northeastern and Syracuse that took place Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River. However, it is the Huskies who left Boathouse Row with the Orange Challenge Cup, taking first place in the varsity 8 race. NU's varsity 8covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:28.5, while Penn was second (6:32.8) and Syracuse was third (6:34.9).

Penn was victorious in the second varsity 8, varsity 4, and third varsity 8 races on Saturday.

In the second varsity 8, the Quakers went 6:35.9 and defeated Northeastern by almost 10 seconds (6:45.2). Syracuse was third in 6:53.0.

In the varsity 4, Penn covered the course in 7:39.0 to defeat Northeastern (7:44.5) and Syracuse (7:47.7).

In the third varsity 8, Penn's 6:59.6 easily bested the Orange (7:09.3) and the Huskies (7:11.1).

In the only other race of the day, Northeastern took first in the second varsity 4; the Huskies clocked in at 7:36.8. Penn's A boat was second (7:40.4), Syracuse was third (7:59.6), and Penn's B boat was fourth (8:20.3).

Penn returns to action next Saturday, racing for the Raritan Cup and the Class of '89 Plaque against Cornell and Rutgers. Those races will be held in New Brunswick, N.J.
