Box Score

Philadelphia – Senior Katy Cross scored her 11th goal of the season and Robin Watson added her third as the University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team defeated Lehigh, 3-1, this afternoon.

“It was a good performance overall,” Head Coach Darren Ambrose said. “We did what needed to do on the offensive end, defended well, and took advantage of the chances we created.”

The Quakers (8-5-2, 3-1-1 Ivy League) opened the scoring at 17:13 as Katie Campbell fed Cross from the midfield setting up Cross’ strike from the right side past diving Lehigh (10-6-0) goalkeeper Erin Iwaskiewicz. A defensive miscue at 23:19 by the Mountain Hawks resulted in own goal to put the Red and Blue ahead, 2-0. Lehigh tallied its only goal of the game at 28:54 as Michaela Pawlewicz’s high, lofting direct kick from 30 yards out found the back of the net. Watson increased the Penn lead to 3-1 at 57:31 after heading home a corner kick by Lydia Bojcun.

Penn outshot Lehigh, 12-6, and allowed only one Mountain Hawk shot in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Anna Halse made three saves in the first half, while junior Jess Keeley stopped one shot in the second. Iwaskiewicz made six saves for Lehigh.

The Quakers’ final home game is Saturday Oct. 30 at noon for a Senior Day match-up against Brown. Penn’s final game of the season is Nov. 6 at Princeton.
