PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team outshot Lehigh on Monday night, 16-5, but it was the Mountain Hawks who came up with the only goal in a 1-0 match played on Rhodes Field.

Penn fell to 4-3-3 with the loss, while Lehigh improved to 5-4-3.

Lehigh’s goal came in the 26th minute, when Sabrina Mertz drove up the middle of the field with the ball and pushed a through-ball that Lexi Chang caught up to outside the left post. Chang took a touch, then coolly pushed a shot that beat Carrie Crook to her left and rolled in off the far post.

Penn pressed the play, especially in the second half when the Quakers outshot the Hawks 11-2. However, most of those chances went wanting, and although Ani Nahapetian finished the night with 11 saves all of them were of the routine variety. At the other end, Crook had two stops in the Penn goal.

Penn gets back into Ivy League play on Friday at Columbia. Kickoff with the Lions is slated for 6 p.m.
