PHILADELPHIA - In torrential conditions that forced the match to be moved from Rhodes Field to Penn Park, the University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team tied Cornell in an Ivy League match, 0-0.
Penn is now 4-2-3 on the season, 0-1-1 in Ivy League play. The Big Red remain one of just two unbeaten teams in the country at 8-0-3, and are 1-0-1 in Ivy play.
With a heavy wind blowing from North to South, the team that defended the North goal had a significant advantage throughout the match. That was Penn in the second half, and the Quakers had two great opportunities to score during that period. The first came when Erica Higa headed a ball just over the crossbar from in front. The second came when a shot was deflected and ended up going just over the crossbar from about 15 yards out.
Penn outshot Cornell in the match, 15-12. Carrie Crook had four saves in garnering her third shutout this season. At the other end, Kelsey Tierney made six stops for the Big Red.
Penn goes out of conference action on Monday night, hosting Lehigh at 7 p.m. on Rhodes Field.
