PHILADELPHIA The No. 2 Penn women’s squash team is headed to Lancaster, Pa., for its first match of 2009. The Red and Blue will take on Franklin & Marshall Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. The Quakers are looking to continue the success they have had in the early part of the season; the team is currently undefeated at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League.
Through the first five matches, Penn has only dropped nine individual matches and five Quakers are currently undefeated. Kristen Lange, who is arguably the best player on the collegiate circuit, is 5-0 playing at the No. 1 spot all matches were decided in three short games. Undefeated Penn players Alisha Turner, Tara Chawla and Annie Madeira remain perfect in the middle of the ladder. Emily Goodwin has posted a 2-0 record at No. 8 and No. 9, playing only the two most recent matches due to an early-season injury.
The host Diplomats are 5-1 overall, and the match will also serve as their first contest of 2009. Penn and Franklin & Marshall last met during the 2006-07 season and the Quakers swept the Diplomats, 9-0.
