Women's Squash Blanks Cornell, 9-0, in Season Opener

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team kicked off the 2006-07 season by shutting out Cornell, 9-0, Saturday at Ringe Courts. Every Penn (1-0, 1-0 Ivy) player won 3-0 and four different Quakers won two games apiece 9-0.

Making their collegiate debut, freshmen Sydney Scott and Kristen Lange showed no signs of nervousness playing at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Scott defeated Maxi Prinsen, 3-0 (9-0, 9-0, 9-1). Lange held off Rachel Wagner, 3-0 (9-2, 9-2, 9-3).

“I was pleased with our performance,” said head coach Jack Wyant. “We prepared well and did a great job of executing. It was nice to get the nerves out and get the first official match over with. Now we’re just going to focus on getting better.”

Paula Pearson, Britt Hebden, Radhika Ahluwalia, Tara Chawla, Alisha Turner, Lauralynn Drury and Christina Matthias all won their matches 3-0.
