STANFORD, Calif. – Play its first competitive match since November, the third-ranked University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team defeated No. 7 Stanford, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in California.
Having traveled to the West coast for winter break training before playing two matches this weekend, the Quakers (4-0) showed little rust in defeating Stanford (2-2). Penn was didn’t drop a single game in the No. 1-9 positions on the ladder.
Leading the way at the top for the Red and Blue were sophomore Anaka Alankamony and junior Yan Xin Tan, along with freshman Melissa Alves. Picking up wins after the top three were junior Haidi Lala, sophomore Michelle Wong, and playing in her first match of the season, junior Camille Lanier. Rounding out the Quakers victories were sophomore Grace van Arkel, freshman Ali Richmond, and senior captain Leslie Gill.
Penn plays No. 8 George Washington at Stanford on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern time before returning to Philadelphia and Ivy League action this coming Saturday Jan. 10 versus No. 10 Dartmouth.
