Women's Squash Draws Williams in Howe Cup

PHILADELPHIA – Following an 8-1 regular season that saw them ranked No. 1 in the nation for four weeks, the University of Pennsylvania women’s squash has its hopes set on a national title as they gear up for the Howe Cup this weekend. The No. 2 seeded Quakers face No. 7 seed Williams in the opening round Friday at 5:30 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.

Penn solidified its No. 2 seed with wins over Harvard and Dartmouth this past weekend. The Quakers defeated Harvard, 6-3, and Dartmouth, 9-0. Penn’s win over the Crimson marked its first win over Harvard since its national championship season of 1999-00.

Williams finished its regular season with a 9-5 record and a second-place finish in the NESCAC. The Ephs lost to Trinity in the championship, 9-0.

Penn shut Williams out back on Jan. 13 at Ringe Courts, 9-0. The Quakers won six matches by a 3-0 count, including victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots.

Ivy League rivals Harvard and Dartmouth make up the rest of the bracket. Despite Harvard’s match with Yale being postponed Wednesday night, the Crimson received theNo. 3 seed and face the No. 6 seed Dartmouth.
