PHILADELPHIA – Coming off its first Ivy League title since 2007-08, the University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team is ranked third in the College Squash Association’s preseason poll. Penn received 667 points, nine more than fourth-ranked Princeton and 19 fewer than second-ranked Trinity.
Penn finished 2014-15 ranked fourth after finishing fourth in the Howe Cup Team Championships and accumulating a 14-3 record overall. The Quakers return 12 players including a trio of All-Americans in co-captain Yan Xin Tan, Anaka Alankamony, and Marie Stephan. Tan produced a 15-6 record in 2014-15, including a 6-1 mark in Ancient Eight contests, helping Penn to a perfect 7-0 record in conference. She finished the season ranked 11th in the CSA Individual Rankings.
The entire Ivy League is ranked in the top 11 in the poll. Harvard, who Penn defeated in their only 5-4 decision of the 2014-15 season, leads the way ranked first and is the only Ivy League opponent ranked higher than the Quakers. Brown (11th) is the only team outside the top 10.
Penn Women’s Squash will begin it's season on Saturday, November 21 in Washington D.C. against eighth ranked George Washington University.
