Women's Squash Heads to California

PHILADELPHIA - After over a month long hiatus, Penn women's squash team will resume action Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif. when they compete in the Stanford Round Robin. The undefeated Quakers will play a rigorous schedule starting at 12:30 p.m. when they face No. 6 Stanford, followed by Wesleyan at 2 p.m., and Connecticut at 3:15 p.m.

Closing out 2009 with a 9-0 victory over Brown on Dec. 6, the Quakers (4-0, 3-0) moved up from fourth to third in the CSA rankings. Gaining its other wins over Cornell, Franklin and Marshall, and Yale, Penn enters the New Year unbeaten for the fourth straight season.

Individually, the Quakers have started incredibly strong with nine undefeated athletes, seven of which have yet to lose a single game (Pia Trikha, Rachael Goh, Christina Matthias, Annie Madeira, Britt Hebden, Taylor Booth, and Kristen Lange).

Stanford (1-1), always a strong contender, has also had a fine start to the 2009-10 season. Despite a 6-3 loss to Cornell in their first outing, the Cardinals rallied the following day to defeat defending National Champion Princeton, bumping the Tigers from No.1 to No. 7. Last year Penn defeated Stanford 7-2 at the Ringe Courts.

In the afternoon the Quakers will face Wesleyan (6-4) and Connecticut (3-5), both of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
