Women's Squash Keeps Hopes Alive, Beats Harvard, 6-3

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 2-ranked University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team defeated No. 3 Harvard, 6-3, Saturday afternoon at Ringe Courts. Penn received solid play from the bottom of its lineup. All four Quakers at the Nos. 6-9 positions won 3-0.

Freshman Sydney Scott won in four games over Jen Blumberg at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 4 position, senior Radhika Ahluwalia bounced back after losing her first game to Supriya Balsekar to take the next three; 9-1, 9-2 and 9-6.

Tara Chawla, Alisha Turner, Christina Matthias and Lauralynn Drury rounded out the bottom of Penn lineup with 3-0 wins. Matthias and Drury both had impressive victories. Both players posted one shutout a piece. Matthias allowed Charlene Neo to score just three points combined in her first two games, while Drury allowed just two points to Sandra Mumanaschit in Games 1 and 3.

"The girls played great and showed a lot of poise today," said Head Coach Jack Wyant. "They were excited to play in front of family and alumni. Every match, one through 10,was hard fought."

The Quakers close out dual meet play Sunday against No. 6 Dartmouth at 11 a.m. It will be the lost home match for seniors Radhika Ahluwalia, Paula Pearson and Caitlin Russell.
