ITHACA - The Penn women's squash team earned a convincing victory in its season opener Saturday as it took down Cornell, 8-1. Sophomore Kristen Lange was the No. 1 player for the Quakers, earning a 3-1 victory that set the tone for the match.
Lange, a first-team All-America selection last season, was the first of eight Quakers to earn victory without seeing their match go to five games. She was followed by sophomore Sydney Scott, who won from the second spot.
After junior Tara Chowla suffered a 3-1 defeat, the only slip of the day for Penn, sophomore Britt Hebden helped the team rebound with a 3-0 triumph from the fourth position. Sophomore Christina Matthias was next to win for Penn, also earning a 3-1 victory. Freshman Annie Madiera, senior captains Lauralynn Drury and Elizabeth Kern, and junior Emily Goodwin rounded out the Quakers' lineup, all earning 3-1 victories. In the tenth positoin, senior Chloe Wynne followed the lead of her teammates and claimed a 3-1 triumph.
The Quakers are back in action on December 1 when they open their home schedule with a match against Yale.
