Women's Squash Outlasts Trinity, 6-3

PHILADELPHIA – Facing its second top-10 team since being ranked No. 1 in the nation, the University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team downed No. 3 Trinity, 6-3, Sunday at Ringe Courts. Penn (6-0, 3-0 Ivy) lost at the top-three spots, but used brilliant play from its No. 4 through 9 players to remain undefeated and hand the Bantams (9-1) their first loss of the season.

Penn was certainly overmatched in terms of experience at the No. 1 and 2 positions as freshman Kristen Lange faced senior Vaidehi Reddy at the top-spot. Experience aside, Lange gave the senior all she could handle taking the match to five games. Reddy took Game 1, 9-1, and the two would alternate victories the next four games. Lange won convincingly in Game 2, 9-2. At the No. 2 position, fellow freshman Sydney Scott faced junior Lauren Polonich. Polonich won in three games (9-6, 9-5, 9-1).

Britt Hebden, Tara Chawla, Alisha Turner and Christina Matthias all picked up 3-0 wins to help solidify the rest of the lineup. Senior Radhika Ahluwalia won in four games at the No. 5 position;with two of her three wins going to 10 points. At the No. 8 position, Lauralynn Drury pulled out a five-game victory over Emily Paton. Drury lost Game 1, 10-8, but came back to win Games 2, 4 and 5.

The Quakers return to Ivy League play Wednesday night when they travel to rival Princeton. Penn takes on the No. 5 ranked Tigers at 5 p.m.
