PHILADELPHIA The postseason is upon us and the Penn women’s squash team will be traveling to Cambridge, Mass., to partake in the Howe Cup on February 13-15. The Howe Cup is the annual team championship tournament for women’s collegiate squash.
The Red and Blue will head into the Howe Cup with a 9-2 overall record and ranked third by the Collegiate Squash Association. Penn was undefeated before they fell, 6-3, to Princeton on Jan. 28. The Quakers then fell to Harvard, 7-2, to drop down to the No. 3 ranking, while Harvard moved up to No. 2 before the tournament.
Ranked No. 2 or 3 did little to change the fact that if both teams were to win its first round matches the Quakers and the Crimson will have a rematch just a week later from Harvard’s win at Ringe Courts. Penn will face Cornell for its first match of the tournament Friday at 9:30 a.m. The Quakers downed the Big Red, 7-2, in their first match of the season on Nov. 22.
Should the Quakers advance, they will face the winner of the No. 7 Stanford and No. 2 Harvard match on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The Tournament will culminate with the finals which are set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
Last year, 2008 Ivy League Champions Penn made it through to the finals of the Howe Cup before falling to Princeton, 6-3. The host Tigers avenged their regular-season loss that helped the Quakers clinch the Ivy Title.
