Women's Squash Stays in Title Hunt, Blanks Dartmouth, 9-0

PHILADELPHIA – The No. 2-ranked University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team kept its Ivy League title hopes alive with a 9-0 shutout over No. 6 Dartmouth Sunday at Ringe Courts. Penn (8-1, 5-1 Ivy) made a clean sweep of the Big Green, winning every match in three games, while five Quakers recorded at least one 9-0 shutout. If Harvard beats Princeton Sunday, Penn would win a share of the title. The victory also included wins for seniors Radhika Ahluwalia, Paula Pearson and Caitlin Russell in their final home meet.

Freshman Britt Hebden rebounded from a loss Saturday to put up Penn’s most impressive win Sunday. She defeated Avery Eyre at the No. 5 spot, 9-1, 9-0 and 9-1. Pearson and Ahluwalia won at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions, respectively. Pearson beat Rebecca Loucks; 9-5, 9-6 and 9-1. Ahluwalia downed Madeline Lurio; 9-0, 9-4 and 9-6. Russell posted a win at the No 10 spot over Frances Battin; 9-2, 9-0, 9-3.

“It was exciting for us to get a win in our final home match,” said Pearson. “It was a good win for us and we have a lot of momentum going into the Howe Cup.”

The Quakers play in the Howe Cup starting Friday at Yale. Penn’s first round opponent will be determined later Sunday.
