Women's Squash to Face Franklin & Marshall in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA - After starting the season off last week with a key victory over Ivy foe Cornell, the Quaker women's squash team christens Ringe Courts with their first home match of the 2009-10 season, Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Franklin & Marshall.

In its first outing, Penn came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Big Red 7-2, capturing five straight wins from the middle to the bottom of the ladder. Despite competing in their first collegiate match, the Quaker freshmen came through with big victories, including No. 4 Rachel Goh's and No. 8 Pia Trikha's 3-0 sweeps of their opponents. Seniors Kristen Lange, Britt Hebden, and Christina Matthias also won uncontested.

A blend of contributing newcomers and upperclassmen, Penn will likely be a tough contender for all opponents.

Franklin & Marshall also come into Wednesday's contest with one match under its belt. The Diplomats fell 9-0 to the Ivy League's undefeated Dartmouth (3-0), in which the Big Green posted 3-0 wins at all positions.

Penn's No.1 Lange will likely face F&M's Morgan Smith, a sophomore, who competed in the top position in all her matches as a freshman. In their last meeting, the Quakers swept the Diplomats on the road, 9-0, on Jan. 14, 2009.
