PHILADELPHIA - With nine University of Pennsylvania women’s squash member starting the day in the College Squash Association (CSA) individual championships, the Quaker have four still playing in main draws, with five moving on in consolation rounds after day one.
In the Ramsay Cup division for the top-32 individual players in the country, Penn’s Anaka Alankamony has moved into the championship quarterfinals winning both of her matches 3-1 in Friday’s play. Also playing in the Ramsay division, the Quakers’ Yan Xin Tan, Hadi Lala, and Michelle Wong all won their first round matches before falling in the round of 16. Courtney Jones and Camille Lanier were defeated in their first round matches. Tan, Lala, Wong, Jones, and Lanier will continue tomorrow in the consolation rounds of the Ramsay division.
In the Holleran Cup division for those individual players ranked 33-80, Penn’s Chloe Blacker, Ailsa Agnew and Leslie Gill all were victorious in their first two matches moving into the championship round of 16. Gill was an addition into the Holleran Cup after withdrawals. With the luck of the draw, the Quakers will only possibly see two of the three advance, as Agnew and Gill will now face each other Saturday morning.
