Women's Swimming at Princeton for Tri-Meet

PHILADELPHIA – The Penn women’s swimming and diving team is headed to Princeton, N.J. Friday night to swim in a tri-meet against the host Tigers and Cornell. Last season, the three schools met at Sheerr Pool with the Quakers edging the Big Red, 217-83 and falling to the Tigers, 184-113.

The Red and Blue dropped a 159-141 decision to Columbia in their opening meet last weekend. The meet came down to the last race and it was the Lions who placed first in the 200 freestyle relay to seal the win. Stephanie Nerby led the Quakers with two first place finishes – the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. Penn swept both the diving events with Melissa Gardel winning the 3-meter diving event, while Madeline Bauer placed first in the 1-meter.

Saturday’s matchup marks the opening meet for Princeton. The Tigers ended the 2008 season ranked 18th nationally after cruising to a third-straight Ivy League title. Princeton is lead by Olympic Trials finalist and seven-time All-America Alicia Aemisegger.

Cornell is already one tri-meet into its season. Last weekend, the Big Red were in Cambridge, Mass. for a meet against Dartmouth and Harvard. Cornell dropped to both teams – a 119-181 decision to the Big Green and a 97-198 result to the Crimson.
