Women's Swimming Edged by Ivy League Rival Brown, 129-114


Philadelphia, Pa. – The Penn women’s swim team suffered a close loss to Ivy League competitor Brown at Sheerr Pool, but not without a fight. The Red and the Blue were able to capture first place in five events, three of which they also took the second place spot.

The Quakers dominated the 200-yard freestyle as they captured the top three spots. Senior Katie Stores led the group as she took first place in a time of 1:55.03. Following closely were Jessica Aiello and Margot Newcomer who finished with the times of 1:55.93 and 1:56.05 respectively.

Success was also seen in the distance events for the Quakers, as they took the top two spots in both the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Cammie Villarreal took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 10:17.41, and was followed by senior Maureen Schriver. Schriver also took second place in the 500-yard freestyle, coming in behind Margot Newcomer who finished with a time of 5:07.39.

Freshman Megan Carlin also finished the day with a first place finish as she captured the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:25.77. Other top finishes came in the 200-yard IM where Amy Ottensmeyer and Alison Bretherick took second and third place respectively.

The Quakers return to action on the road on January 22nd, when they take on Yale and Dartmouth in New Haven, Conn.
