Women's Swimming Faces Brown at FAU Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - Looking to build on their already strong start to the 2010-11 season, the Quakers travel down to Florida on Wednesday to take on Brown on the campus of Florida Atlantic University, Wednesday at 10 a.m.

The Red and Blue are 3-1 in dual meets this season including a 2-1 mark within league play. Penn also earned a first place finish in the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College, beating five other teams to take the title.

In the Quakers' final meet before the Holiday break the Red and Blue beat Columbia 165.5-135.5 on Dec. 10. It was the first victory over the Lions in three years, as Penn won nine of the meet's 16 events. Three different swimmers had multiple victories, including senior Madeline Bauer, who took top honors in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

Freshman Shelby Fortin won three events in the meet, taking first in the 100-yard back (57.55), 100-yard free (51.80) and 500-yard free (4:58.38). Sophomore Melissa Parratto also swam well, winning the 100-yard and 200-yard fly in 57.33 and 2:03.37 respectively. Her time in the 200 was the second fastest time in Penn history, only trailing her school-record time of 2:02.59.
