Women's Swimming Faces Princeton, Cornell in Tri-Meet

Live Meet Results

PHILADELPHIA - The Quakers were victorious in their first meet of the season and look to continue that success when they travel to Ithaca to battle Princeton and Cornell in a tri-meet beginning Saturday at 11 a.m.

Penn opened with a convincing 171.5-126.5 win over BIG EAST foe Connecticut by capturing victories in eight events. Freshmen Shelby Fortin and Kristi Edleson were both impressive in their first collegiate meet. Fortin won the 50-yard free, 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke while Eldeson touched first in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events.

Senior Naomi Delphin also won a pair of events, taking the 100 and 200-yard free. Sophomore Melissa Parratto took the 200 I.M. and the Red and Blue also captured the 400-yard free relay.

Defending Ivy champion Princeton enters the pool on Saturday for its first meet of the season. The Tigers didn't lose an Ivy dual match last season, though the Quakers came close, losing just 160.5-128.5. Last season Penn did take down Cornell, beating the Big Red 172-128. Cornell is 0-2 on season, after losing to Harvard and Dartmouth over the weekend.
