PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's swimming team ended its dual meet season on a high note, taking down La Salle 188-110 on Wednesday evening at Sheerr Pool.
The victory was the fourth for the Quakers this month, as they took ten first place finishes to capture the meet. Swimming in their final home meet, seniors Stephanie Nerby, Andrea Balint and Amy Reams all made their presence felt by combining for five top finishes.
Nerbry won both the 500 free (5:00.87) and the 200 free (1:53.72), while Balint also took a pair of first place finishes, in the 100 free (53.70) and the 50 fly (26.89). Reams won the 50 free in 24.74 and finished second behind Balint in the 100 (53.96).
Senior Melissa Gardel also earned a first place finish in the 3-meter fiving event. Sophomore Jennifer Claydon had her best meet of the year, finishing first in the 100 fly (59.78) and also swimming the butterfly leg of the first place 200 medley relay team (1:48.78). She also finished second to Balint in the 50 fly (27.37).
Penn returns to the pool in a few weeks when the team takes part in the Ivy League Championships from February 25-27.
