Women's Swimming Opens 2012 in Florida

PHILADELPHIA - Women's swimming hits the water on Wednesday following a long lay-off, facing Brown and Florida Atlantic at the FAU Aquatic Center.

After defeating six other schools to claim victory for the third straight year at the Total Performance Invitational last month in Ohio, a depleted Quakers squad fell less than a week later to both Harvard and Columbia. Penn will attempt to re-capture the form it displayed in Ohio, as the team has been in Florida for the past week prepping for the upcoming Ivy Championships in February. The Quakers welcome the return of Shelby Fortin, who was in Atlanta at the Winter Long Course Nationals in early December and who did not compete for Penn at Columbia.

Brown enters Thursday having only competed in a pair of official events. The Bears were downed by Dartmouth, 172-123, on Nov. 19, before finishing third behind Princeton and Rutgers at the Princeton Invitational from Dec. 2-4.

Florida Atlantic has had a season of ups and downs, finishing fifth out of nine teams at the All Florida Invite, followed by a dual meet loss to Florida Gulf Coast ahead of victories over Florida International and Florida Southern. Most recently, the Owls narrowly escaped with a win over Cincinnati, 139-132, but lost to Denver, 163-123, at a tri-meet on Dec. 17.
