Women's Swimming Splits At Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Quakers opened their season up in strong fashion, beating Cornell and losing in a close matchup against Princeton on Saturday afternoon.

Penn had five first place finishes and fell to the defending conference champion Tigers 160.50-128.50 while beating the Big Red 172-128.

In the 100 yard breaststroke, freshman Ji Young Lee took first with a time of 1:04.30, while sophomore Laura Klick (1:05.59) took third in the event. In the 200, Lee recorded another first with a time of 2:20.33, while Klick finished second in 2:22.44.

Senior Melissa Gardel also took first, as her score of 226.25 was tops in the 1-meter diving event, while teammate Madeline Bauer took third (207.55). In the 200 yard IM it was senior Andrea Balint winning with a time of 2:09.24 while freshman Melissa Parratto took second with a time of 2:10.54.

Penn's final victory of the meet came in its last event, the 200 yard free relay. The foursome of senior Lauren Brandes, Lee, and sophomores Felicia Leksono and Jennifer Claydon finished two seconds ahead of second place Cornell with a time of 1:37.63.

The Quakers are off next weekend but return to the pool when they take part in the Kenyon invitational December 3-5.
