Women's Swimming Splits Home Opener; Downs Cornell 201-97, Falls to Princeton 205-95

Philadelphia, Pa. - The University of Pennsylvania women's swim teameasily defeated Cornell, 201-97 while falling to Princeton 205-95 in their first Ivy League meet of the season. Leading the team were both Megan Carlin and Cammie Villarreal who each had both a first and second place finish to end the night.

Villarreal opened the meet with a second place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:25.42, followed by senior captain Maureen Schriver who finished in fourth place with a time of 10:32.69. Villarreal then captured the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.50

Carlin led the Quaker’s breaststroke effort, finishing first in the 100 yard and second in the 200 yard event.The freshman easily defeated the competition with a time of 1:05.96. In the 200 yard breaststroke, Carlin finished in second with a time of 2:26.94

The Quakers also had a strong showing in the 200 yard butterfly taking both second and third place.Stephanie Colson took second place with a time of 2:08.45, followed by Alison Bretherick in third place with a time of 2:09.67. Other strong performances were turned in by Katie Stores who finished third in the 100 yard freestyle and Hayley Wolfgruber who finished third in the 200 yard backstroke.

The Quakers return to action Tuesday, Nov. 23 at La Salle at 5:30 p.m.
