Women's Swimming Too Much For West Chester

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's swimming team decisively won against area rival West Chester, taking down the Golden Rams 182-115 on Friday night at Sheerr pool.

Senior diver Melissa Gardel has the performance of the night for the women, breaking the 20-year-old record in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 316.65. The score broke the previous record set by Beth Bauer in 1991. Gardel didn't disappoint in the 1-meter either, beating teammate Madeline Bauer for first with a score of 256.35.

Overall the Quakers took 11 first place finishes in the 16 events, as eight different swimmers won individual events. Sophomore Laura Klick was the only other swimmer besides Gardel to win twice, as she took top honors in 100 (1:03.86) and 200 yard breast (2:20.39).

Freshmen Melissa Parratto finished just three tenths behind the school record in the 200 fly with her winning time of 2:03.91, while classmate Mary Beth Heine earned her first victory of the season in the 200 yard back, swimmingthe eventin 2:07.69

The Red and Blue return to action next Friday at 6 p.m. whenthe teamhosts La Salle in its final dual meet of the season.
