Women's Tennis Begins Play at ITA Regionals

NORFOLK - The Penn women's tennis team sent four players to the ITA East Regionals at Old Dominion University. The foursome began play in doubles action on Saturday.

The team of Ekaterina Kosminskaya and Julia Koulbitskaya entered action as the number two overall seed in the doubles draw and have lived up to their billing so far. In the first round, the pair defeated Victoria Konstantinova and Olena Loenchuck of Virginia Commonwealth, 8-5. They then advanced to the round of 16 with a win over Klaudyna Kasztelaniec and Lauren Sabacinski of William and Mary, 8-3. Up next is the 13th-seeded team of Pamela Duran and Ashlee Vosters of Richmond.

Yulia Rivelis and Charlotte Tansill drew Karen Lundmark and Maggie Mackeever of Maryland in the first round and were victorious, 8-3. In the second round, the pair met the eighth-seeded Lauren Clark and Lindsay Ritz of Yale. The Bulldog twosome came out on top, 8-6.

All four women begin singles play on Sunday. Kosminskaya is the sixth seed in the tournament, Rivelis is seeded 14th, Koulbitskaya is seeded 15th, and Tansill is seeded 26th.
