Women's Tennis Completes Play at Princeton Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – Playing in the three day Princeton Invitational over the past weekend, the University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team found success in both singles and doubles in Friday, before finishing the weekend at the Lenz Tennis Center.

In doubles competition on Friday, senior Alexandra Ion and freshman Lina Qostal won their match, 8-4, over Columbia, while sophomore Luba Vazhenina and freshman Nicole Berkman walked away 8-5 winners, also over the Lions.

Ion, Qostal, and Vazhenina also won their singles matches against a trio from South Carolina, while sophomore Kana Daniel won her singles match 7-5, 6-1 over Boston College’s Katya Vasilyev.

On Saturday, Daniel managed the only Penn victory in singles winning in three sets over Duke’s Annie Mulholland – 6-4, 2-6, (10-6).

Before making the return trip to Philadelphia on Sunday, Penn played two doubles matches and five singles matches. Ion and Qostal were looking for their second doubles win of the weekend, but ultimately fell in a tie breaker to Duke, 8-7(15-13).
