Women's Tennis Defeats Virginia, 4-3

Charlottesville, Va. – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team defeated the University of Virginia, 4-3, on Saturday. The Quakers dropped the doubles point but won four singles matches to take the match.

The team of Julia Koulbitskaya and Michelle Mitchell fell at No. 1 singles, 8-0. At No. 2 doubles, Yulia Rivelis and Shelah Chaofell, 8-2while Caroline Stanislawski and Kate Williams won, 8-5, at the number three position.

In singles competition, Koulbitskaya fell at No. 1 to Diana Srebrovic, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1. Rivelis then defeated Douglas Wink, 6-2, 7-5 at the number two position. Chao fell at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2, to Kristen James before the Quakers took the next three points to take the match. Mitchell defeated Lori Stern, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, Stanislawski defeated Rachel DelPriore, 7-5, 6-2 at the number five position and Williams closed out the match with a victory over Dora Bechliwanis, 7-5, 7-6, at No. 6.

The Quakers are next in action on Saturday, Feb. 29 when they host Virginia Commonwealth in the Levy Tennis Pavilion at 4 p.m.
