Women's Tennis Defeats Yale, 5-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team improved to 2-0 in Ivy League play with a 5-2 victory over Yale on Friday. Penn swept the doubles point and at the No. 1, 4, 5 and 6 spots in singles.

Yulia Rivelis and Julia Koulbitskaya downed Olivia Nix and Rashmee Patil 9-7. Raluca Ciochina and Alexis Plukas beat Aimee Kim and Christina Cutter 8-2. At No. 3, Michelle Mitchell and Caroline Stanislawski defeated Lindsey Dashiell and Janet Kim 8-6.

In singles Rivelis picked up the win at No. 1 over Patil. After losing at the No. 2 and 3 spots the bottom of the line-up solidified the Quakers. Plukas defeated Ashley Mile 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 4. At No. 5 Ciochina beat Nix 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Stanislawski rounded out singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lilian Nguyen.

Penn is now 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the Ancient Eight.

The Quakers travel to Providence to take on Brown on Saturday at noon.
