Philadelphia - The No. 58 University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team defeated Yale, 5-2, on Friday at the Lott Tennis Courts. The Quakers won the doubles point and took the final four singles matches in the win.
Penn swept all three doubles matches in the win. Julia Koulbitskaya and Shelah Chao took the match in the first doubles position, 8-3, while Raluca Ciochina and Michelle Mitchell took the No. 2 match, 8-4. Kate Williams and Caroline Stanislawski won their sixth of the past seven matches in the No. 3 position, 8-2.
In singles play, Yulia Rivelis fell in the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-4. Koulbitskaya dropped the match at No. 2, 6-1, 7-6. The Quakers then won in the next four positions to take the match. Mitchell won in the third spot, 6-3, 6-1, Chao won at No. 4, 6-0, 6-3, and Stanislawski took the match at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. Williams won in the sixth position, 6-1, 6-3.
The Quakers are next in action on Saturday, April 9 when they host Brown on the Lott Tennis Courts at noon.
