Women's Tennis Drops Close Match with Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - Continue its tour of the Lone Star State, the University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team suffered its third straight loss, falling 5-2 to the University of Texas at Austin. Penn found a way to win two three-set matches, but could not overcome the Longhorns on Thursday afternoon.

It was certainly not the Quakers day on the court from the start, as they lost two of the three doubles matches, both by narrow margins. The pair of Kana Daniel and Sonya Latycheva that just achieved the No. 67 ranking in the ITA gave the No. 13 pair of Breaunna Addison and Dani Wagland all they could handle in a 6-4 loss. Marta Kowalska and Ria Vaidya were the only duo to come out on top during the match, winning another close one, 7-5

The Quakers received big contributions from the bottom of the ladder with wins from the fifth and sixth positions. Marta Kowalska picked up a three-set win in the No. 5 spot for Penn. Kowalska lost the first, 6-4, but bounced back to back-to-back 6-4 wins to earn the point.

O.J. Singh experienced a similar result, losing her first set before coming back in a big way, dominating her final two sets by 6-1 and 6-3 scores.

The always impressive Kana Daniel was impressive once again, even in defeat. Penn's No. 1 player battled the No. 8 player in the country, Breaunna Addison in a three-setter, but fell in 6-4 in the deciding set.

Penn will wrap up its trip on Saturday with a match against Rice in Houston.
