Women's Tennis Drops Tight Match to Dartmouth, 4-3

PHILADELPHIA – Getting a picture perfect day forits Ivy home opener, the University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team came up just short, falling to Dartmouth 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Hamlin Tennis Center.

With the match coming down to the final singles match in the fourth position, Penn’s Jaime Yapp-Shing was defeated by Dartmouth’s Melissa Matsuoka in a third set 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, to give the Big Green (6-7, 2-1 Ivy) the victory.

Penn (7-8, 0-4 Ivy) won the doubles point to start the day with Yapp-Shing and Sonya Latycheva winning 8-2, and Stephanie Do and Luba Vazhenina winning 8-6.

From there, the Quakers managed to win in first and third positions in singles play, with Sol Eskenazi winning in a second-set tiebreak 6-2, 7-6 (5), and Latycheva winning 6-3, 6-1.

The Penn women return to the courts tomorrow at 12 p.m. as No. 46 Harvard comes to Philadelphia for an Ivy League match versus the Quakers. The Crimson (9-6, 1-2 Ivy) fell to No. 69 Princeton on Saturday, 5-2.
