PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team was unable to recover from dropping the doubles point on Thursday afternoon, falling to Georgetown by a score of 4-3 at the Hecht Tennis Center.
The Hoyas escaped with the doubles tally, as the duos of Victoire Saperstein and Risa Nakagawa and Sophia Barnard and Mimi Lynham were victorious in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. The top squad of Saperstein and Nakagawa narrowly edged the Quakers’ duo of Kana Daniel and Sonya Latycheva in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (6).
Sophomore Lina Qostal and freshman OJ Singh picked up the lone doubles triumph for Penn, notching a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Qostal made it an undefeated afternoon by picking up a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 4 position -- while freshman Marta Kowalska continued her stellar rookie campaign with a 7-5, 7-5 victory in the No. 3 slot. Daniel was the third Quaker to register a singles victory, pulling out a thrilling 7-6 (9), 4-6, 10-6 win at No. 2.
