Women's Tennis Falls to Pepperdine, 5-1

MALIBU, Calif. - The No. 63 Penn women's tennis team fell to No. 17 Pepperdine Friday, 5-1, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

The Quakers (5-4) were unable to pull off their second upset of the week against the higher-ranked Waves (10-2).

For the second match in a row, Penn and its opponent played singles first due to poor weather. Pepperdine tookfive of the six matches against the Quakers.Bianca Dulgheru defeated Yulia Rivelis 6-1, 6-2, while Sylvia Kosakowski handed Alexis Plukas a 6-3, 6-1 defeat. Caroline Stanislawski fell to Natalie Braverman, 6-3, 6-3. Sara Schiffman lost at No. 5 to Eva Dickes 6-1, 6-1, andMerve Asimgil beat Ashley Lostritto 6-1, 6-1.

Penn's only point came at No. 3 where Raluca Ciochina defeated Caroline Raba 6-3, 6-1.

The doubles point was not contested due to rain.

The Quakers finish their West Coast swing Saturday at Fresno State at noon.
