Women's Tennis Falls to William & Mary, 6-1

Las Vegas, Nev. -- The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team, ranked 57th in the nation, fell to No. 7 William and Mary, 6-1, on Wednesday at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Quakers (5-3, 0-0 Ivy) dropped the doubles point to open the match. The team of Julia Koulbitskaya and Shelah Chao fell in the No. 1 doubles spot, 8-2, and Kate Williams and Caroline Stanislawski fell at No. 3, 8-4, to give William and Mary the point. Raluca Ciochina and Michelle Mitchell took the No. 2 doubles match, 8-4.

In singles action, Ciochina earned the Quakers only point of the match with a 6-1, 7-6(3), victory over Alex de Guzman in the sixth position. Yulia Rivelis fell, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles while Koulbitskaya fell, 6-4, 6-4, in the second slot. Chao was defeated by Megan Muth, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, Mitchell fell to Candice Fuchs, 6-0, 6-7(4), 6-1 at No. 4 and Stanislawski was defeated by Kate Boomershine, 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-3, in the fifth position.

The Quakers are next in action on Friday, March 10 when they take on UNLV at 1 p.m.
