Women's Tennis Falls to Yale, 4-3

PHILADELPHIA- Kicking off Ivy League play on the road, the University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team lost a tight match to Yaleon Friday afternoon, 4-3. The Quakers continued their successful run in doubles, but couldn't find wins at the top of the ladder, losing in the top four spots.

Penn got off to a good start by taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point. The duo of Kana Daniel and Sonya Latycheva picked up their 12th win of the season with a 6-4 win in the top spot. They are now 12-2 on the year and secured the point for the Quakers.

Luba Vazhenina and Lina Qostal were also helped Penn to the doubles point. The pair worked a 6-3 win in the third position to allowed Daniel and Latycheva to finish off the point.

Marta Kowalska and Ria Vaidya were denied a doubles win while leading 5-4. They were not permitted to finish once the point was clinched.

Penn would go on to struggle individually, losing in the top four spots. Marta Kowalska and O.J. Singh were the only two Quakers able to defeat their Bulldog counterparts on Friday. Kowalska won a tough two-set match with 7-5 and 6-2 results and Singh bounced back from a first set loss to take the next two 6-2 and 6-3 to walk away with the point.

The Quakers will now make the trip to Providence on Saturday in search of their first Ivy win of the season. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start.
