Women's Tennis Passes Portland, 4-3

SAN DIEGO - On day two of west coast competition, the Penn women's tennis team overcame Portland 4-3, Friday afternoon. The Quakers improved to 4-6 on the season and 1-1 at the USD Invitational.

After winning the doubles point, Penn earned wins in the No. 3, 5 and 6 positions from freshman Jules Rodin, sophomore Daniela DePaoli, and freshman Emma Whitfield. Rodin came back from falling 6-0 in the first set to win 6-1, 6-0 for the victory. DePaoli topped her opponent in two sets, 6-4, 6-3, while Whitfield won by default in the six spot.

Junior Alexa Ely fell in three sets, winning the second 6-3, but falling 6-4 in the third, while sophomore Emily Wolf was downed in two 6-4 sets. Senior Jacqueline Wong lost two tough sets, 7-6.

The Quakers wrap up their California trip tomorrow with a match against San Francisco at 10 a.m. (PST).
