Women's Tennis Prepares for USTA/ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team will head to New Haven, Conn. for the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships this weekend beginning on Thursday at Yale’s Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Penn players will be competing in singles and doubles competition, looking to advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships held Nov. 6-9 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

So far this fall, the Quakers have competed in their own Cissie Leary Invitational before traveling to William & Mary and Princeton.

Competing in singles during the regionals for the Red and Blue will be junior Sonya Latycheva, sophomore Kana Daniel, sophomore Luba Vazhenina, and freshman Lina Qostal. Vazhenina will be playing in the qualifier, while Latycheva, Daniel, and Qostal will play in the main draw.

The Quakers doubles will consist of Daniel and Latycheva playing together, with senior Alexandra Ion playing with Qostal.
