Women's Tennis Readies for Maryland and VCU

PHILADELPHIA - After a two week hiatus, the Penn women's tennis team will play Maryland and No. 36 ranked VCU this weekend. The Quakers will stop off in College Park, Md. Saturday at 11 a.m. to play the Terrapins, and then face VCU in Richmond, Va. Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Red and Blue own a 2-2 record with their last match dating all the way back to Feb. 2, in which Penn was edged by Temple, 4-3. Their contest scheduled for Feb. 6 with George Washington was cancelled due to the winter storm.

Leading the way for Penn, the duo of junior Alexa Ely and freshman Charlotte Ezratty boast a 2-1 mark in doubles play. In addition, they both own 3-1 records in singles -- Ely in the No. 1 position and Ezratty in the four or five. Sophomore Daniela DePaoli and freshman Emma Whitfield have been a solid combination in No. 3 doubles, earning a 3-1 record. Individually, they hold 2-2 records in singles.

Maryland has started off the spring season 0-3 with three additional matches getting postponed due to the inclement weather. They come off a 4-3 heartbreaking loss to Rutgers on Valentine's Day.

VCU has proven to be a strong force, owning a 5-2 record, including matches against five schools ranked in the top-55. Their losses come from No.1 Duke and No.14 Clemson. The Rams' enter this weekend coming off a 7-0 trounce of Temple last Saturday. They will compete at No. 39 Virginia Tech Saturday before meeting the Quakers on Sunday.
