Women's Tennis Set to Play Virginia Commonwealth, Richmond

PHILADELPHIA – The Penn women’s tennis have its first home matches of spring season this weekend. The Quakers will host two Virginia teams, Virginia Commonwealth Saturday at noon followed by Richmond Sunday at noon in Penn’s Levy Tennis Pavilion.

The Red and Blue began their season with a road loss to Old Dominion, 7-0. The Red and Blue did not fall easily as four of the singles matches took three sets to be decided. In the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll Penn was at the No. 67 spot while VCU sat at No. 35 and Richmond was unranked.

VCU are already seven matches into their spring season, posting a 5-3 record. The Rams have had some close losses to top ranked teams including a 4-3 loss to eleventh-ranked Clemson. In last season’s match, the Rams defeated the Quakers, 6-1, in Richmond, Va.

The Quakers will finish the weekend with a match against Richmond. This will be the second Philly match of the weekend for the Spiders as they are set to play Temple on Saturday. Last weekend, Richmond swept its weekend matches against West Virginia (6-1) and Liberty (7-0) putting the Spiders at 5-1 early in the season.
