PHILADELPHIA - After a tough 4-3 loss to George Washington on Friday, the Penn women's tennis team rallied Sunday afternoon to beat Bucknell with the same score, improving their record to 3-5. It was a much needed win for the Quakers, breaking a four-match losing streak.
Although the Bisons earned the doubles point off an 8-6 win in No. 3 and a tight 9-8 victory over Alexa Ely and Jacqueline Wong in the No. 1 position,Penn battled back to win four straight singles matches in the bottom of the lineup.
In three sets, freshman Jules Rodin fought off Bucknell'sDara DwojewskiatNo. 3 singles. Rodinwon the first set 7-6 after a tiebreaker, then succumbed a 6-4 loss in the second, but closed the match out with a 6-1 victory in the third. Rodin also won her match with teammate Rose Schlecker in No. 2 doubles, 8-5.
Daniela DePaoli and Jacqueline Wong each won their matches, 6-2, 6-1, at the four and five spots, while freshman Emma Whitfieldrecovered from a 7-6 tiebreaker loss in the first set to win the next two, 6-4, 6-1.
The Bisons earned their singles wins in the No. 1 and 2 positions, in which Lauren Lucido topped Ely, 6-1, 6-4, and Tania Varela defeated Emily Wolf, 6-4, 6-4.
The Quakers have some time now to gear up for their trip to San Diego, Calif where they will compete in the USD Invitational March 11-13.
