Women's Tennis Takes Down Temple, 6-1

PHILADELPHIA – In its first match coming off a spring break trip to California, the University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team defeated Philadelphia rival Temple 6-1 on Saturday inside the Levy Tennis Pavilion.

Penn (7-4) jumped out to the first point in doubles play with Sol Eskenazi and Sonya Latycheva winning their doubles match in the first position 8-3, while Kana Daniel and Luba Vazhenina won their match 8-1. Stephanie Do and Alexandra Ion were tied 6-6 in their match when play was halted.

The Quakers saw a great deal of success in singles play as well against the Owls, (4-9) dropping only one match. Eskenazi and Daniel were victorious in the top two positions, while Do and Ion won in the fourth and fifth positions. Junior Srinidhi Raghavan won 6-3, 6-1 playing in the sixth position for the Quakers.

With non-conference play now wrapped up, Penn will turn its eyes to the Ivy League schedule, beginning at Princeton, next Saturday.
