PHILADELPHIA - Penn is on the road for five matches over Spring Break, starting with San Diego State on Saturday. The match starts at 3 p.m. EST.
The Quakers are 3-1 on the season and are in the midst of a 12-match road trip. Over the course of the ten-day trip to California, the Quakers will take on four teams currently ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The first team on the docket for the Red and Blue is San Diego State. The Aztecs are ranked No. 72 by the ITA and are on a two-match losing streak. SDSU is 5-6 overall on the season. Freshman Julia Trunk is the highest-rated Aztec player, coming in at No. 86 in singles.
The Quakers have been led in the early portion of the 2008 campaign by senior tri-captain Julia Koulbitskaya. She has won all four of her singles matches and is also undefeated in doubles. She went 2-0 with partner Amanda Avedissian in the first two matches of the season. After Ekaterina Kosminskaya returned from ilness, the duo won both matches they had. They are currently ranked 17th among doubles teams by the ITA.
The second stop on the West Coast swing will be Irvine, Calif. for a match with UC-Irvine on Monday at 4:30 p.m. EST.
