PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's tennis team could not hold offNo. 55 Yaleon Saturday at Levy Tennis Pavilion, falling 6-1. Maria Anisimova (pictured) won her singles match at No. 2. Lauren Sadaka and Emily Wolf won their second set doubles match as a team - the duo also won on Friday over Brown. The Quakers are now 1-12 overall and 0-3 in the Ivy League with arguably that best teams in the conference out of the way.
The doubles matches opened up the contest with the Bulldogs taking the top two matches. Sadaka and Wolf defeated Stevi Petrelli and Lilian Nguyen 8-5. The duo also won their doubles match as a pair on Friday over Brown.
With a 1-0 lead, the Bulldogs got their needed three matches to capture the team win.Anisimova was the spoiler for the Bulldogs as she defeated Yale's Jessica Rhee to prevent the sweep. Anisimova and Rhee battled from the opening game till the end. Rhee took the first set in a tiebreaker, followed by Anisimova winning the second by breaking Rhee's serve. In the third set, Anisimova and Rhee traded points before Anisimova managed to break Rhee's set for the win (6-7 , 6-3, 1-0 )
Sadakawas one match shy of makingweekend sweep of her matches when she was unable to overcome Vicky Brook at No. 3. Sadaka took the first set by breaking Brook's serve just once. In the second set, the two were even until Brook broke Sadaka's serve late in the set to to force a third super set, which is first to ten wins the game and the set. Brook maintained her momentum for her second set win to get to the needed 10 points for the win (4-6, 7-5, 1-0 ).
The Quakers will be in New England next weekend for its first Ivy road trip of the season. The Red and Blue's first match of the weekend is at Dartmouth (3 p.m.) on Friday, followed by Harvard (12 p.m.) on Saturday.
