PHILADELPHIA – It’s a rare opportunity to play ‘team’ tennis in the fall, but the University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team took advantage of the chance in day one of the 22nd Annual Tribe Invitational at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
On Friday, the Quakers faced Indiana in doubles and Wake Forest in singles coming out on top in both matchups. The Red and Blue defeated Indiana 2-1, and Wake Forest 4-3.
The First-team All-Ivy duo of senior Sol Eskenazi and sophomore Kana Daniel led the way against the Hoosiers, winning 8-1. Picking up the second match in a tie break were senior Alexandra Ion and freshman Lina Qostal, 8-7 (5).
Singles play against Wake Forest saw Eskenazi and Daniel win in the top spots, with Qostal and fellow freshman Nicole Berkman win as well. Sophomore Luba Vazhenina was able to force a third set in her match before falling 7-5, 0-6, 6-3.
