Women's Track and Field Honored for Academics

Women's Track & Field All-Academic Teams

PHILADELPHIA - For the second time this year, the University of Pennsylvania’s women's cross country and track & field program was honored by the the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). On Thursday, the Quakers earned 2011 Division I All-Academic Track & Field honors. Earlier this year, the Red and Blue garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country recognition.

A total of 164 institutions composed the All-Academic Track & Field honorees. The Ivy League had all eight representatives recognized - the only league with every one of its members to earn the honor.

The Quakers cumulative GPA finished at 3.29. Princeton reported the highest cumulative GPA among All-Academic honorees with a 3.68, while Texas won the Indoor Scholar Team of the Year honor as the nation's runner-up at the NCAA Indoor Championships and a GPA of 3.28. Oklahoma, which finished fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, earned the title of 2011 Outdoor Track & Field Scholar team of the Year with a 3.03 GPA.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have competed in their respective NCAA regional championship.
