Women's Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season Friday

Wake Forest Open Schedule


PHILADELPHIA – With a successful indoor track and field season behind them, the youthful University of Pennsylvania women’s team will look to build upon its success as they head into the outdoor season starting this weekend with the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, N.C., March 20-21.

The Wake Forest Open will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday with the hammer throw. The final field event, the pole vault, begins at 2 p.m. The track events run from 1 p.m. with the 100-meter hurdles to 8:30 p.m. with the 10,000 meters. Saturday’s action starts with the javelin at 9:30 a.m. and runs through 5:40 p.m. with the 1,600-meter relay.

The Quakers had a fairly successful indoor season, placing fifth at the Heptagonal Championships with freshman representing more than one-third of its athletes at the meet. Eleven members of the Red and Blue qualified for the ECAC Championships in individual events, along with the three relay teams that reached the championship meet.

In addition, 10 different Penn athletes set a total of 15 marks that now sit in the top 10 all-time in the Quakers’ indoor record book.
