Outdoor Performance List
Updated Outdoor Record Book
PHILADELPHIA – Looking to build upon their fast start to the outdoor season, the University of Pennsylvania women’s track and field team will head to College Park, Md., on Saturday to compete against 18 other schools in the Maryland Invitational. The meet, which will take place at the Jim Kehoe Track Complex, will be the team’s second outdoor competition of the year.
The meet starts at 9 a.m. with the 5,000 meters, while the first field event begins at 10 a.m. with the hammer. The discus will wrap of the field events at 2:30 p.m., and the meet will conclude with the 4x400 relay which is scheduled to start at 5:40 p.m.
Last weekend, the Quakers hit the ground running with several record-threatening performances. Four members of the Red and Blue either placed their name in the school’s record books or bettered their record marks with great efforts at the Wake Forest Open. Those efforts included Erin Baird’s meet-best and ECAC-qualifying 10,000-meter time, a fourth-place finish by the relay team in the 400-meter relay and freshman Davielle Brown’s great first impression. The freshman pole vaulter finished second in the event in her collegiate outdoor debut, setting the school’s third-best mark in the process.
If a brilliant beginning happens to translate into a successful Saturday for the Quakers, it would not come as a surprise to the host Terrapins, who were the only team to finish ahead of Penn at last year’s Maryland Invitational. The Penn women were the only school other than Maryland to finish with 100 points or greater thanks to top finishes in five events and two ECAC qualifiers. Former Quaker runner Leah Brogan was one of Penn’s top performers in the meet last year, winning the 5,000 meter event and qualifying for the NCAA Regional Championships in doing so. Senior Anna Aagenes, who will have the chance to defend her event title, also claimed first in her run, the 1,500 meters.
Complete results from the Maryland Invitational will be available on PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of Saturday’s events.
