Women's Track and Field to Defend Team Title at Great Dane Classic

PHILADELPHIA – At the Great Dane Classic last season, the University of Pennsylvania women’s track and field team topped the field with a first-place finish. The team will defend its title Friday when they travel to The Armory in New York, N.Y. — one of the most historic track and field centers in the world.

Penn won the team title last season behind the performances of two event winners along with second place finishes from senior Whitney Tagliavini (long jump), junior Yelizaveta Lozovatskaya (pole vault) and junior Iman Johnson (shot put). The Quakers’ 1,600-meter relay and distance medley relay teams also placed second at the meet.

Hosted by the University of Albany, the one day meet will be underway at noon. More than 40 men’s and women’s teams are expected to compete in the Great Dane Classic.

Penn will revisit The Armory later this season in one of the most competitive indoor track and field meets of the season—the New Balance Collegiate Invitational during the first weekend in February.

Complete results from the Great Dane Classic will be available on PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the meet.
